Job Description
Pioneer Camp provides campers and staff with an atmosphere that challenges them to grow and invites them to experience God in Creation and to know Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.

Job Qualifications (preferred but may not be necessary):
-
Is a graduate of a college or university program in Outdoor Education or in a program related to Outdoor Education (e.g. recreation, teaching, science, etc. or has related experience in these areas)

Experience with working in an evangelical Christian Outdoor Education centre or camp

Experience teaching evangelical truths through story, song and/or drama

Skilled in:
- Recreation (e.g. canoeing, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, hiking, etc.)
- Outdoor education (e.g. teaching a variety of classes centred around the natural environment)
- Adventure or Experience based learning (facilitating initiative and team building games, low ropes courses, challenge courses)
Job Responsibilities:
Program – instruction of activity classes for school age and adult groups
Responsible for:

Preparation and instruction of outdoor activities

Assisting in leading weekend and week day programs Preparation and organization of assigned program areas for which the instructor becomes the activity head (determined in consultation with the Assistant Director)

Ensuring proper use, storage and maintenance of all program resources and equipment

Ensuring safe practices in supervised activities
- Participate in skill development courses
Hosting – responsible for hosting weekday and weekend groups

Responsible to welcome weekday and weekend groups

Assist in preparation of site arrival for groups

Ensure that reasonable requests from groups are promptly met

Act as a liaison between guests and other instructors and the YRM leadership team.
Training and Professional Development – staff will set professional, personal and spiritual goals at the beginning of their contractual period

Continued training so that staff grow in expertise in areas of instruction

Training and certifications will be offered, when necessary, in various areas
-
Cost sharing for training/certification fees is available with Pioneer (amount and necessity will be determined in consultation with YRM Director’s)

Regular involvement in staff Bible study
General

Assist with the work of Pioneer in any area where help is needed from time to time (e.g. maintenance, kitchen, housekeeping)

Demonstrate a Christ-like servant attitude with all duties
TERMS
- I. Seasonal contract employment: September through June with longer stays possible for the right candidates
- II. Some weekend work with time off compensated during the week
- III. Monthly salary, including room and board, laundry facilities, phone /internet, use of equipment (amount dictated by experience, training, seniority, length of contract)
- IV. Some training, uniform and equipment costs including deposit for orientation kit (First Aid kit, Radio, Room Keys, Manual)
- V. Possibility for involvement in exchanges with other Christian camps around the world (Australia, New Zealand and Zimbabwe).
