Lifeguard/Waterfront Coordinator
Purpose
The purpose of the lifeguard/waterfront coordinator maintains the highest level of safety at the lakefront. The lifeguard also builds relationships with campers at the waterfront as well as the campers that are in their cabin.
Duration
This is a 12-week position, beginning June 13, 2011.
Description
Working as the lifeguard/waterfront coordinator involves supervising the campers at the waterfront during swim time as well as supervising other activities at the waterfront such as canoeing and games. The lifeguard will have the opportunity to spend time as a cabin leader as well.
Skills
- Holds current Waterfront Nationals (or preferred experience)
- Current CPR and Standard First Aid training
- Previous Camp Experience preferred
- Ability to work with children and adults in a camp setting
- Ability to schedule and implement waterfront programs
- Canoeing experience would be an asset
Responsibilities
- Supervision of campers at waterfront; coordinates waterfront activities
- Responsible for keeping waterfront safe, secure and marked for safest possible activities
- Provide emergency or first aid assistance at the waterfront Responsible for safety at the waterfront area including necessary first aid
and upkeep and maintenance of safety equipment etc. (including first aid kit, spinal board, reaching assists, etc. and any other
necessary life preserving equipment. Also including floats, buoys and the raft.) - In charge of placing the raft and buoy lines in accordance with provincial regulations and directions from the Executive Director, and
for removing them at the end of the camping season. - Responsible for upkeep of the first aid station and kits at the main camp.
- Form list of rules and regulations for the waterfront and display it in the lodge and at the waterfront. Ensure these rules and
regulations are understood and followed. - Maintain strict discipline, cheerfully, at all times, at the waterfront, according to camp standards; the Lifeguard exercises absolute
authority over all campers and staff at the waterfront. - Assist the Program Director and other staff in programming any special waterfront activities such as water Olympics, etc. Compile
and keep a reasonable list of waterfront activities and games for swim times. - Maintain the cleanliness of the waterfront including raking the area twice per week, bringing forward lost and found items daily and
removing any garbage. - Check and maintain adequate First Aid supplies and place necessary orders through the Executive Director.
- Assist in other areas of the camping program as requested by the Executive Director
