POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director leads and directs the Mountain Aire Lodge (MAL) operation of TMS, a not-for-profit organization that builds capacity to deliver primary care, housing and employment and partnering with others to address the root causes of poverty for those in need in Alberta. MAL is a key ministry centre of TMS, offering active recovery for those dealing with their addictions and support for the hard to employ to become more employable, using a social enterprise model. MAL intentionally follows Jesus Christ, building community, growing hope and supporting change so that individuals can sustain independent living.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Project/Program Management
- Responsible for a business unit that is part of TMS providing strong management skills to lead and direct a multi-faceted team.
- Provide and promote high standards of professionalism, integrity and leadership to the MAL team.
- Works closely with guests to design, develop, and implement “changing lives” strategies.
- Develop and implement projects that meet the needs of guest.
- Edit and provide guidance to ensure timely delivery of high quality proposals and presentations.
Strategic Planning
- Working with the Chief Operating Officer and other members of the senior management team develop the strategic direction of MAL as an intentional contributor to TMS’s strategic plan.
- Evaluate the delivery of ministry, business and programs against the mandate and vision of TMS and its strategic plan.
Financial Management
- Ensure that all aspects of the MAL are operated with fiscal responsibility, in accordance with the annual budget and finance policy.
- Supervise the production of an annual budget and financial projections and oversee monthly financial transitions.
- Seek and secure governments, private, and corporate funds.
- Estimate, schedule, and measure project tasks, costs and business risk for all initiatives.
Capacity Building
- Represent TMS at conferences, meetings working groups, and committees introducing concepts, tools and skills for the homeless community.
- Deliver presentations to a wide range of audiences.
- Work with the faith community to gain support for the work of TMS and identify opportunities for them to be involved.
Donor Relations
- Understand the importance of donor relations and work to increase participation of the whole community.
- Oversee the fundraising activities of the MAL operation and be the “face” of TMS in the external community.
Development
- Identify creative and innovative development opportunities including third party events.
- Establish and maintain strong partnerships with industry, donors, and government organizations.
- Contribute to the continual improvement in the delivery of services.
- Ensure that MAL’s practices support TMS’s brand by using communication, networking and promotional tools that are comprehensive, thoughtful and representative of TMS’s vision and values.
- Build healthy networks that create sustainable delivery of MAL’s operations.
- Managed a proposal development process including identifying new opportunities, writing proposals and presenting them to donors and funding bodies.
Human Resources
- Lead the staff team with vision and love, thoughtful planning and administration and in accordance with Biblical principles, the Employee Policy Handbook and government employee relation regulations. Help each staff member realize their potential and develop as humans as they do their part of serving in excellence towards the realization of TMS’s vision.
- Hire, coordinate, and motivate a multi-disciplinary team of full and part time staff and volunteers.
- Ensure that everyone at MAL is given the opportunity to connect with Christ and have a meaningful experience through operational practices that are excellent, thoughtful and consistently emerging as unique, relational and exceptional.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Must be a follower of Christ.
- 10 years management experience, preferably in the non profit sector.
- Bible School Degree or Seminary training preferred however lay church leadership essential.
- Must be administratively strong.
- Experience working with the marginalized and vulnerable.
- Must be familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
- Must be able to work co-operatively on a team.
- Must be prepared to lead live the vision of MAL and TMS.
- Must have education or the equivalent in education that will allow the candidate to live effectively in the tension of leading an organization and a ministry in a non profit sector.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- This is a unique position where living and working blend naturally together. Though not a 24/7 reality, Executive Directing requires leadership that is hands on in a reasonably remote location. Mountain Aire Lodge is largely a community initiative where relational strength is required, careful boundaries are managed so that a work life balance is maintained.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- This is a permanent position. Location is Sundre, Alberta
- Start date is ASAP.
- Work days and hours are flexible and to be created around the natural business and ministry demands of the position as well as to reflect the make up of the management team.
- As we are a Christian ministry, we require our employees to agree with and sign our statement of faith.
- We have an excellent benefits plan when full-time, permanent status is achieved, including medical and dental as well as 3 weeks vacation in the first year and a pension plan available after.
